Todoist

Available on Android / iOS / Windows

Todoist is a cloud-based service, so all your tasks and notes sync automatically to any device on which you use the app. You can also use the app offline and have your changes sync later. It’s available on every major platform, including Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Android Wear, and Apple Watch. Todoist offers a web app, too. In my experience with Todoist, syncing is highly reliable except in the web app, where you have to refresh the page if you make changes in another version of the app and want to see the most current version.

Todoist comes packed with features, although they never feel overwhelming, thanks to a simple and light interface. It isn’t bogged down with too many buttons or excessively long dropdown menus. When you first start using the app, you can figure out how to use all the core functionality, such as creating a task, scheduling its due date, and adding a comment. The more you use Todoist, the more depth and features you’ll discover.

The setup is straightforward, too. First, you create projects. Projects can be color-coded to help you differentiate among them. Then you add tasks to your projects and as much or as little details as you need. You can add a due date, comments, a priority rating, and other details. Tasks can also have subtasks. To make subtasks, you write the subtask as if it were any other task, and then you drag and drop it below the parent task. You can pull out subtasks and disassociation them from a parent just as easily.
